SKILLS: Clinical and Intellectual |
During the clerkships, medical students practice their skills. The clinical skills are those of history taking and physical examination and the intellectual skills are those of evaluation and management.
A key component of the Internal Medicine clerkship is to document the acquisition of these skills by recording the history, physical examination, evaluation and proposed management of newly admitted patients = "the write-up". Although individual physicians may differ in the style of their written communications, a clear and comprehensive record is essential.
